Doris Mae Schmuck, 89, Luverne, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017, at the Bethany Meadows Home in Brandon, South Dakota.
A funeral service was Friday, Oct. 13, at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne. Burial was in the Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.
Doris Collings was born Aug. 28, 1928, to Henry and Mary (Killaney) Collings in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She attended school in Sioux Falls. At the age of 19 she moved to Luverne.
Doris married Vernon Kruger in 1941. Vernon died in 1965. Doris married Lester Schmuck on Oct. 19, 1966, at the First Presbyterian Church in Luverne. After their marriage, the couple lived in Luverne. Lester died on March 10, 2007. Doris worked at Lang’s Café, Etta’s Café and the Rock Café, all in Luverne. Doris also worked at Campbell’s Soup in Worthington and Safeway in Adrian.
She was a homemaker and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Luverne. She was also a volunteer at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Doris is survived by five children, Gerald (Linda) Schmuck, Gulfport, Mississippi, Charlene Franco, Glendale, Arizona, Wanda (Gary) Johnson, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jack Kruger, Valley Springs, South Dakota, and Janelle (Doug) Bolt, Brandon; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Marlys Collings, Sioux Falls, and Delores Strassburg, Luverne.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Vernon Kruger and Lester Schmuck; two brothers, John and Wesley Collings; and a sister, Virginia Obermueler.
