A Celebration of Life Service for Cheryl Nelson, age 75, of Windom, will be held Tuesday, March 12, at 11 a.m. at LaCanne Family Celebration of Life Center in Windom with Pastor Adam Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Delafield Township Cemetery in rural Windom.

A time of visitation and gathering will be held prior to the service on Tuesday, March 12, from 9-11 a.m. at the LaCanne Family Celebration of Life Center in Windom.

Cheryl Lynn (Graue) Nelson was born to Vernon and Beverly (Beam) Graue on October 11, 1948, in Windom, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at the American Lutheran Church in Windom. Cheryl attended school in Windom and graduated from Windom High School. She then attended Winona State University for one year before transferring to Pipestone Vocational College from 1967-68, where she earned a degree in fashion merchandising. 

In 1969 Cheryl married Dennis Nelson, and the couple lived in Jacksonville, Florida, while Dennis was in the U.S. Navy. In 1971 they moved back to Minnesota and lived in Marshall, where their son, Ryan, was born. Later they moved to Duluth for a few years before settling back in Windom in 1980. The marriage later dissolved.

After moving back to Windom, Cheryl began working in the office at Country Pride Services Cooperative, where she worked for 33 years. While working at Country Pride, Cheryl met Robert “Jr”, and they were married in October 2012. They enjoyed great times together, until “Jr” passed away on July 7, 2022. Cheryl loved spending time with the girls and with the family dog, Buddy, going to the cabin in Alexandria, gardening, and watching “Everybody Loves Raymond” on television.

Cheryl passed away peacefully on February 29, 2024, at Luverne Hospice Cottage in Luverne, Minnesota.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Ryan (Amy) Nelson of Brandon, South Dakota; three grandchildren, Megan (Blake Hill) Rogers, Gemma Nelson, and Marlee Nelson; siblings Deb (Kevin) Bunch of Ellisville, Missouri, Pam (Dan) Fossing of Windom, and Melissa Kunkel of Orlando, Florida; nieces and nephews, Brian (Laura) Bunch, Travis (Krissy) Fossing, Hilary Fossing, Kelsey (Jess) Fossing, Haley Kunkel and Chase Kunkel; as well as many relatives and friends.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Jr” Frericks; her parents, Vernon and Beverly Graue; and nephew Jason Bunch.
