Bernard J. “Ben” Maras, 68, of Flandreau, South Dakota, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2019, at his home.
A funeral service was Tuesday, Nov. 19, at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau, with burial in Luverne.
Ben was born March 9, 1951, to Louis and Evelyn (Baloun) Maras in Ash Creek. He received his education in Luverne and then attended SE Vo-Tech.
Ben and Sharon Lovejoy were together for over 40 years in their marriage. He worked for KELO, Hutchinson Technologies and for the Flandreau Public School for the past 11 years until retiring one month ago.
Ben enjoyed hunting, fishing, and mowing lawns, and he was a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs. His favorite was to dote on his grandkids and attend their school events. Ben’s motto was “The bigger the better.”
Ben is survived by his wife, Sharon; two daughters, Kimberly (Brian) Headrick, Tea, South Dakota, and Brittney Hall, Elk River; two grandchildren, Kourtney and Joseph; and six siblings, Theresa (Alvin) Radke, Agnes Thompson, Diane (Eldon) Klaahsen, Mary Moorshead, Dominic (Linda) Maras, and Phil Maras.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and four brothers.
