Arlyn Vincent “Arlie”  McClure, 88, Luverne, died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2016, at the Sanford Luverne Medical Center.
A funeral was Saturday, Oct. 1, at St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne. Burial followed in the Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.
Arlyn McClure was born July 27, 1928, to John and Anna (Aanenson) McClure in Adrian. He was baptized at Our Savior Lutheran Church on April 14, 1929, and was confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church on May 11, 1952. The family lived in Kenneth, where Arlie attended school. They then moved to the farm northeast of Luverne. Arlie attend country school near Luverne and graduated from Luverne High School. After graduation he worked for area farmers.
Arlie married Ruth Gonnerman on Sept. 4, 1949, in Luverne. The couple lived in Luverne. Arlie worked for M.J. McKee Roofing until he began farming with his father and brother. He then worked for the Luverne Coop Creamery. In 1961 he started working at Mid Pack, which later became Iowa Beef Processors. Arlie retired from Iowa Beef in July of 1993. He also worked part time for Busse Plumbing & Heating for a few years.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where he served as an elder, a greeter, an offering counter and head usher. Arlyn also helped with Little Lambs Preschool. He enjoyed farming, gardening, golfing, playing cards, fishing and family get-togethers.
Arlie is survived by his wife, Ruth McClure, Luverne; three children, Jeff McClure, Brandon, South Dakota; Arla Rae (Buz) Cousins, Marshall; and Sandra Kay (Greg) Johnson, Luverne; eight grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Douglas (Darlene) McClure, Luverne; and Steven (Cheryl) McClure, Mitchell, South Dakota; and a sister, La Vonne (Thomas) Williems, Garretson, South Dakota.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter-in-law, Barb McClure; a grandson, Christopher McClure; a granddaughter, Angela Joy Cousins; a great-granddaughter, Breley Vandrovec; and four brothers, John I., Milford, Gary and Roger McClure.
