Arlene Esther Monahan, 82, Nisswa, formerly of Owatonna, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2020, at Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Baxter.
A memorial service will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna. Interment will be in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens in Owatonna. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, at Michaelson Funeral Home and from 8-9 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association or to donor’s choice.
Arlene Hemme was born April 17, 1937, to Herbert and Esther (Mohr) Hemme in Luverne. She was raised on a farm near Hardwick and graduated from Luverne High School.
On Dec. 27, 1958, Arlene married Robert Monahan in Hardwick. The couple made a few moves for Robert's work before settling in Owatonna. Arlene was the bookkeeper for Cedarview Nursing Home for over 20 years. In 2013 Arlene and Robert moved to Nisswa.
Arlene was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and later Cross Lake Lutheran Church. She loved attending her grandchildren’s sporting events. Arlene enjoyed traveling, was a great cook, enjoyed baking and was an excellent host.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Mark) Mukomela of Lakeville; her son, Michael (Shari) Monahan of Breezy Point; grandchildren Karli Monahan and Ryan Monahan; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, brothers Arlo Hemme and Gene Hemme, and an infant daughter.
