Ada N. Adams, 100, Luverne, died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Society Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne.
A funeral service was Tuesday, Aug. 27, at the United Methodist Church, in Luverne. Burial followed at the Luverne Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Ada Noyes was born Oct. 19, 1918, to Curtis and Leah (Langlois) Noyes in Brooks. At the age of 2 1/2, she contracted infantile paralysis (polio) and as a result lost the complete use of her right leg. Her family moved to a farm with a log house near Erskine, where she went to a country school about 1 1/2 miles from the farm place. In 1932 Ada attended Erskine High School and graduated in 1936. After graduation she trained to be a telephone operator, with the Garden Valley Telephone Company. During the war, she attended schools in Warren, Duluth and Glenwood, studying in radio communications. She remained in Minneapolis as a radio CW and radio phone operator for five years.
Ada married Lester Adams on May 28, 1947, in Bemidji. The couple moved to Fertile. In 1957 they moved to Luverne where she first worked in the office of a produce company and then worked part time for a tax accountant for seven years. She then took a full-time job with Tri-State Insurance Company of Minnesota where she worked for 11 1/2 years, retiring in 1983.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Luverne. She enjoyed playing pinochle in a marathon and doing some ceramics at Minnie’s Mud Hut. She took radio classes to earn her Novice Ham Radio License and belonged to the Tri-State Amateur Radio Club. She also enjoyed taking short trips in the spring and fall of the year. She loved spending time with her grandsons, friends and the fellowship of the church.
Ada is survived by her son, Dr. Curtis (Madonna) Adams, Yankton, South Dakota; three grandsons, Dr. Brent (Coreen) Adams, Yankton, Dr. Jonathon (Sara) Adams, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Craig (Katie) Adams, Sioux Falls; seven great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester, on June 8, 1993; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Adams; and five brothers, Fred, Clifford, Johnny, Walter and George Noyes.
