For what it's worth
OK, in the spirit of full disclosure, I had a birthday about three weeks ago ... and as the years add up, so do the aches and pains.
My most recent pain flare-up centered around my neck area. As with most things that go on in my life, they become topics of conversation at the office.
During one of the office conversations about neck pain, John Rittenhouse chimed in with the recommendation to try a My Pillow. He said he swears by his. In fact, he takes it with him when he travels.
A day or two later I was roaming the aisle at Bomgaars and came across the My Pillow display.
After checking out the size chart, I determined I needed the size for the big head. The king-size pillow costs about $60. That’s more than I paid for any three pillows in the past. But hey, if it helps, I figured money well spent.
The My Pillow comes in a fancy box and it has a picture of owner and pitchman Mike Lindell on the box.
I’m sure you’ve seen the My Pillow commercials on TV. They’re on darn near every channel and at all times of the day and night.
It wasn’t the commercial that got me — it was the Rittenhouse recommendation.
I took the pillow home, opened the box and threw it on the bed ready to try it out that night.
Three nights had passed and I wasn’t sure I felt the same way John did about the pillow and told him so.
I said it sure was a thin pillow for 60 bucks. He said “Didn’t you throw it in the dryer first?”
I looked at him with a puzzled look and he said, “Yeah, you have to throw it in the dryer for about 30 minutes on high before you use it.”
I thought he was pulling my leg, but sure enough, on the tag on the pillow it says, “Throw in dryer for 25 minutes on high before using.”
Never in my wildest dream did I ever consider throwing the pillow in the dryer.
I watched those My Pillow commercials a hundred times on TV and never once did I hear Mike mention the fact that I needed to dry the pillow first.
So I guess the lesson here is to read the tag on your pillow before using.
Once the pillow went through the 25-minute high cycle, it was about twice the original thickness, and I’m starting to come around to the Rittenhouse way of thinking — at least on the pillow thing anyway.
