Daryel Buss

Daryel A. Buss, 76, Luverne, died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018, at his home.

A funeral Mass was Saturday, Aug. 18, at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne. Burial with full military honors provided by the Luverne American Legion & VFW was in St. Catherine Cemetery in Luverne.

Daryel Buss was born Feb. 12, 1942, to Anthony "Tony" and Grace (Boltjes) Buss in Adrian. He graduated from Adrian High School and later served his country in the United States Army.

Daryel married Delores "Dee" Honermann on Feb. 23, 1963, at St. Adrian Catholic Church. The couple lived in Minneapolis for one year before moving to Luverne. Daryel managed IGA and later HyVee in Luverne. He then worked at Les’ Foodland. Daryel worked at Tony’s Foodland which later became Jubilee Foods. In 1999 he began working at Pace Manufacturing, in Brandon, South Dakota, before retiring.

He was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church where he served as an usher and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed card club, watching the Minnesota Twins and NASCAR, attending his grandchildren’s events, watching the weather and traveling with Dee. Some of his favorites were Hostess cupcakes, ice cream, his Lazy Boy recliner, and most of all time with his family and friends.

Daryel is survived by his five children, Butch (Jo) Buss, Luverne, Troy (Lisa) Buss, Golden Shores, Arizona, Tim (Christy) Buss, St. Michael, Tom (Cassandra) Buss, Bellevue, Washington, and Traci (Jason) Schmid, Harrisburg, South Dakota; seven grandchildren, Jackie, Melisa, Britt, Tyler, Mady, Tayler and Morgan; two great-grandchildren, Kayla and Lily; a brother, Dale (Gayle) Buss, Adrian; a sister, Lou Ella Engelson, Harris, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Sandy Buss, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Wiard Schroeder; his wife, Dee, on Sept. 29, 2014; an infant grandchild, baby Schmid; and a brother, Dave Buss.
