An incident that began in Worthington Wednesday night turned into a pursuit that ended in Rock County near Beaver Creek.
According to Rock County Sheriff Evan Verbrugge, his deputies were alerted around 12:30 a.m. Thursday of a pursuit on I-90 of a suspect vehicle that was traveling west.
Local deputies monitored the chase, which entered Rock County via County Road 4.
Stop sticks were deployed east of Magnolia but Verbrugge said the vehicle, a green four-door car, continued eastbound, despite deflated tires.
It traveled through Magnolia and Luverne, where a Minnesota State Patrol trooper took the lead as the pursuit continued west toward Beaver Creek.
The state squad used a PIT maneuver (Pursuit Intervention Technique) to force the suspect vehicle to spin and lose control.
It came to a stop shortly after 1 a.m. in the south ditch of County Road 4 two miles east of Beaver Creek where two suspects were taken into custody.
The driver, 25-year-old Mary Weddell, Sioux Falls, was arrested without further incident, and her passenger, 27-year-old Sean Symouksavanh, Minneapolis, fled into a nearby field where officers caught up to him.
The two were taken to the Nobles County Jail where they await formal charges.
Weddell was arrested for weapons violations, fleeing a peace officer, driving impaired and reckless driving.
Symouksavanh was arrested for drug possession and fleeing a peace officer.
