Library offers winter/spring Story Hour/Laptime

The Rock County Library will offer Story Hour for children ages 4-5 Thursday mornings from 10 to 11 a.m. from now through Thursday, April 5. Story hours include stories, songs, crafts and more.

Laptime for children from birth through age 3 will meet every Friday morning from 10:30 to 11 a.m. from now through April 6. Laptime fun includes stories, songs, crafts and more.


Bank Night movie ‘Ferdinand’ March 1

The free Bank Nite Disney movie, “Ferdinand,” rated PG, will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 1, at the Palace Theatre in Luverne.

Sponsored by First Farmers & Merchants National Bank and Papik Motors, a free, family-friendly movie is shown on the first Thursday of every month as it was done for “Bank Nite” in the 1930s. A cash prize drawing will follow the movie. Must be present to win.


Luverne Middle School band/choir concert March 1

The choir and band students in grades 6-8 will perform a concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 1, in the high school gym. The concert is open to the public and there is no charge.


World Day of Prayer events

•The First Presbyterian Church in Luverne will host a World Day of Prayer service at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 2. All men and women are welcome.

•Area women are invited to the Women’s World Day of Prayer at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 2, in the Steen Reformed Church. Ranee Hagen will speak about their mission work in Romania.


Register for 2018-19 Little Lambs Preschool

Little Lambs Preschool is now accepting registrations for the 2018-2019 school year. Registration materials may be picked up at the preschool or at St. John Lutheran Church office, at 803 N. Free food March 15

New Life Celebration Church will offer free food — fresh produce, bread and meat — from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 15, at the Luverne Senior Center for those having trouble putting food on the table. Bring your own bags or boxes. Call  283-4366 with questions.


Register for 8-hour defensive driving class

Luverne Community Education will offer the full 8-hour defensive driving class in two 4-hour evening sessions from 5:30-9:30 p.m. March 19 and March 26 for anyone 55 years of age or older who wants to qualify for a 10-percent car insurance premium discount. After attending both evenings, you will receive a certificate to present to your insurance company for an insurance discount for the next three years. Sign-up deadline is March 19 for summer baseball/softball

All students in grades K-12 who want to play baseball or softball in the summer community recreation program need to register by March 19 at the Community Education Office. Register now for summer baseball and softball – for students in K-12.  Deadline is March 19.

Students in grades 1-5 – a second class of Get Slimed has been added on March 1.  Changing up ingredients can create a lot of different versions of this favorite.  Fee is $11.

There are a lot of recipes to be shared and made at Play with Dough class for students in grades 1-5 on March 8. Fee is $11.

Learn how to make delicious meals in minutes at Cooking Under Pressure on March 10.  Fee is $24 and includes sampling foods that are prepared in class.

Interact with the residents at the Poplar Creek while you build a Fairy House Night Light on March 10.  Fee is $16.

Kids in the Kitchen (grades K-6)  will cook up treats in time for St. Patrick’s Day  on March 15.  Fee is $18 or sign up with a friend and pay $28.

Whitney Lafrenz will share information on wraps at Babywearing 101 to be held on March 12.  Sibling care offered—request at time of registration.  No fee, but registration required.

Preschool Classes for ages 3–5 is now opening registration for Fall of 2018.

Half day Preschool classes are offered during the school year for children who are 3 years old up to kindergarten age. Enrollments are accepted throughout the school year.

Age is determined as of Sept. 1 of school year. Free or reduced rates are available if income guidelines are met. Call 283-4724 for more information.  New addition is 5 days of preschool for children age 4 and older.
