10 years ago (2007)
•Four lots in Luverne’s Evergreen II Addition will be taken off the market due to water issues.
The Luverne Economic Development Authority approved this action at their Tuesday, Sept. 11, meeting on the recommendation of city engineer Gary Kurth.
Kurth, of Rock Rapids firm DGR, advised the city not to develop the lots on the northeastern corner of the addition along Blue Mound Avenue near Christensen Drive intersection.
He cited drainage issues, a high water table and future development as reasons for his recommendations.

•Jim Brandenburg was back in Luverne this week, He was finishing the second half of a photo shoot of the Midwestern United States.
Brandenburg worked on the first half of the shoot prior to his stop in Luverne on the Fourth of July weekend when he was inducted into the Rock County Hall of Fame. …
Tuesday he spent time at Blue Mounds State Park getting a photo of the Luverne area for the National Geographic piece.
 
50 years ago (1967)
•A tire went wild in Magnolia Monday morning.
When things were quiet again Darrell Lester’s car had the side bashed in and Forrest Travis’s garage door, another 250 feet down the street, had $25 damage.
Sheriff’s Deputy Dean DeBooy, investigating officer, identified the truck driver involved as Richard R. Frey, 25, of Winona.
Frey’s semi, owned by Madison Silos of Winona, entered the village on Highway 16 from the east. As it came into the city limits a tire came off the truck and hit a 1964 Buick owned by Darrell Lester. The Impact was so hard the frame was sprung and damage was set at $900.
The tire rim continued on for another 250 feet and smashed the Forrest Travis garage door. Luckily, no one was hurt. Time of the accident was 11:20 a.m. officials said.
 
75 years ago (1942)
•After deliberating one hour and 10 minutes Friday, a district court jury found no cause for action against Selmar Anderson, city employee, in the case of Edith A. Baker, Vivian E. Dillman and Ethel D. Pierson vs. the City of Luverne and Anderson, for damages because of an auto crash.
The case against the city was dismissed the day previous because plaintiffs failed to file notice of claim for damages against the council within one year, the time stipulated by the statute.

100 years ago (1917)
•Under an order issued Monday by Judge L.S. Nelson, the opening of the regular September term of district court for Rock County, which was to have convened Tuesday of next week, has been postponed until Tuesday, November 19th.
This order was issued in recognition of the rush of farm work and the scarcity of available help at this time, which would make it a hardship for many of the jurors who are engaged in farming to report for service at the regular time.
