Rick Peterson, Tollefson Publishing General Manager

It’s been a productive summer around here. By that I mean it’s been a productive few months in the baby department here at the office as well as in my family.
Abbe, our production manager here at the office, had her second son at the end of July. My daughter Jenna had daughter No. 2 on Aug. 10. Our circulation manager, Jenn, had her second child, a daughter, on Aug. 22.
Abbe had her first child a couple of years ago on Aug. 22. My mom had her second child (me) on Aug. 22 — 60 years ago. And as I mentioned earlier, Jen had her second child on Aug.22 as well.
I would imagine there will be a babysitting night in Mary’s and my near future. If you remember, I had some difficulties with the baby formula-making machine while caring for Brooke, our first granddaughter.
Now that I think about it, maybe my babysitting debacles the first time around could be the reason I haven’t been recruited to watch both granddaughters at the same time.

Within the next couple of days or so, well over 100,000 people will be going to one of nine Garth Brooks concerts in Sioux Falls. I saw a report where nearly 40 percent of the people attending one of the concerts will be from outside Sioux Falls, and the overall economic impact for Sioux Falls will be in the neighborhood of $12.5 million.
They’re not quite on par with Garth yet, but some local talent has come together to form the band, The Locals. They will be performing at the historic Palace Theatre Saturday, Oct. 7.
Band members include Dean Luethje, Keith Maine, Chris Nowatzki, Susan Skattum and Kenny Rolling.
The band will perform “The Music Of Steve Miller.” Tickets are on sale now at the Palace Ticket Office. Prices are $20 for adults and $10 for students.
An added bonus in all this is that the concert is a fundraising event for Luverne Street Music.
