Young and old met Wednesday morning, Aug. 9, for the first jigsaw puzzle competition offered through Luverne Community Education.
Luverne’s Jacki Johnson organized the tabletop event after reading about a similar tournament conducted by the Rushmore Booster Club.
She also hosted for personal reasons. “I am a puzzle lover myself,” Johnson said.
Ten other puzzle lovers convened in the community education classroom to see who could put a 100- or 300-piece jigsaw puzzle together the quickest.
Both winners completed their puzzles in about a half hour.
Ella Hoogendoorn of Luverne won the children’s category. She put her 100-piece puzzle together in 29 minutes.
Minutes later the adult sister team of April and Autumn Norman, both of Luverne, finished their 300-piece puzzle in 32 minutes, 55 seconds.
“It’s a lot of teamwork,” Autumn Norman said.
Using the picture on the puzzle box as a guide, Norman said her team sorted the puzzle pieces by color and then put the frame of the puzzle together first.
All who competed received prizes.
“It was a fun time for everybody,” Johnson said.
Another tournament is planned for the community education winter session.
