The Luverne Cardinal baseball team remained alive in the Section 3A tournament by winning two elimination games after their first loss of the double-elimination tournament last week.
Luverne played Jackson in Windom Tuesday night (June 6). A win in that game would have the team playing New London-Spicer tonight.

LHS 7, Minnewaska Area 5
Luverne jumped out to a 4-run lead in the first inning and never trailed in the remainder of a 7-5 victory over the Minnewaska Area Lakers in Granite Falls Saturday.
Derek Lundgren pitched the first three innings for the Cardinals, giving up three hits and one earned run. Ben Serie replaced Lundgren on the mound and gave up seven hits and struck out three batters while earning the win.
Declan Beers led the offense for Luverne with three hits and scored twice. Jaxon Nelson had two hits and scored two runs for the winning team.
Tyler Reisdorfer (also with two hits), Serie and Gaige Nath each had two RBIs in the game. Nath offered three sacrifice bunts in the contest.

The Cardinals posted their third win of the section tournament when they posted a four-run win over the Bulldogs Thursday in Granite Falls.
Tyler Reisdorfer tossed a seven-inning shutout and the Cardinals supported their pitcher by plating two runs in the third and fourth innings.
Reisdorfer fanned 10 batters and yielded six hits during his complete game.
He helped his own cause by driving in Luverne’s third-inning runs at the plate.
Charlie Reisch singled and Declan Beers reached base on catcher’s interference to set the table for Reisdorfer, who delivered a two-run double to open the scoring.
Derek Lundgren reached base on a fielder’s choice and Trey Roberts gained first base on a fielder’s choice in the fourth inning.
Both runners scored when Mark Sterrett singled.

NL-S 3, Luverne 1
The Cardinals were sent to the loser’s bracket with a two-run loss to the Wildcats in Granite Falls May 30.
Luverne took a 1-0 lead in the top half of the first winning, but NL-S plated three runs in the bottom half of the opening frame and the squads played to a scoreless draw the rest of the way.
The Cardinals got off to a quick start as Mark Sterrett and Declan Beers drew consecutive walks before Jaxon Nelson rolled a single to left field that plated Sterrett with a first inning run.
Unfortunately for the Cards, the only other hit they would register in the game was a two-out single by Charlie Reisch in the fifth inning.
NL-S countered with a three-run rally in the bottom of the third that included three hits and two fielding errors by LHS.
Ben Serie took the pitching loss after tossing four innings of eight-hit, three-run (one was earned), four-strikeout ball.
Derek Lundgren relieved Serie and tossed two innings of scoreless, hitless ball.
