Daryl Dammer, 66, Rushmore, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2016, at his home in Rushmore.
A funeral service was Tuesday, Dec. 13, at the Adrian Funeral Home in Adrian with interment at Sunset Rest Cemetery in Rushmore.
Daryl Dammer was born Feb. 24, 1950, to Sievert and Jessie (Janssen) Dammer. He grew up on the family farm northwest of Rushmore. He attended school at Adrian through the 10th grade and completed high school at Worthington.
Daryl married Donna Croat in 1971, and they had six children together. They later divorced. He married Charlotte Green on March 16, 2001.
He was employed at Armour Packing House many years and then did construction work for four years. He returned to the packing house in Worthington after it was taken over by Swift and worked in the maintenance department. He retired in 2014 after a combined 42 years at the packing house. In addition to his regular job, Daryl did carpentry work and metal roofing projects.
Daryl was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Rushmore and Eagles Club in Worthington. He also served on the Rushmore Fire Department for a few years.
He enjoyed camping, fishing, playing cards and loved spending time with his grandchildren. Daryl was known for a fabulous garden and the variety of produce he grew.
Daryl is survived by his wife, Charlotte; three children, Lynette Wenzel of Rushmore, Tamara (Kevin) Stude of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Amy Dammer of Rushmore; five grandchildren, Taylor Wenzel, Tori Wenzel (Kyle Perry), Noah Stude, Antonio Dammer and Kiley Dammer; one great-grandchild, Brayden Perry; three sisters, Janice (John) Bents of Lincoln, Nebraska, Nancy (Jerry) Krull of Rushmore, Bonnie (Rodger) Breuer of Sioux City, Iowa, his in-laws, Verne (Janet) Green of Gregory, South Dakota, Roger (Marti) Green of Owatonna, Elnora Hemesath (Duane Eink) of Ossian, Iowa, Wayne Green of Luverne, Jerald (Evelyn) Green of Adrian, Bernard (Beth) Green of Bemidji, Orvin Green of Adrian, Denise Sprecher of Luverne, Reva Green of Luverne, Roxanne Green (Terry Reisdorfer) of Luverne, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Steven Dammer in 1975 and Thomas Dammer in 1977; one daughter, Stacy Dammer in 1975; three brothers, Johnny, Verlyn and Allen Dammer, and a sister-in-law, Darla Green.
