Mary Ann Mente, 82, Vinton, Iowa, formerly of Tipton, Iowa, died Monday, Oct. 24, 2016, at the Vinton Lutheran Home.
A funeral was Friday, Oct. 28, at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Clarence, Iowa. Burial followed at St. John’s Cemetery.
Mary Ann Oelerich was born Nov. 1, 1933, to Herman and Hilda (Studt) Oelerich in Scott County, Iowa. She married James Mente on June 27, 1964, in Davenport, Iowa.
Mary Ann was an avid baker and loved to make treats for her family. She was a farm wife but also worked at Wal-Mart for many years in Tipton. Mary Ann enjoyed sewing, playing cards and in card clubs, going to her grandkids’ events, going for drives with her husband, and cheering on the Hawkeyes. In her younger years she was a 4-H leader and had a love for gardening.
She is survived by her husband, James; a son, David (Stacy) Mente, Adrian; a daughter, Denise (Todd) Wiley, Walker, Iowa; seven grandchildren; a brother, Earl Oelerich, Davenport, Iowa; a sister, Shirley Morrow, DeWitt, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Teresa Anderson, Arlington Heights, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Jack Morrow.
