Erwin Roy De Boer, 73, Hills, died unexpectedly Monday, Sept. 26, 2016, at his home in Hills.
A funeral service was at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, at the Reformed Church of Steen, with a private burial at the United Reformed Cemetery in Hills.
Erwin De Boer was born Aug. 23, 1943, to Frank and Berdella (Vander Meulen) De Boer in Sanborn, Iowa.  He lived in Sanborn, Harris, Iowa, Round Lake, and Lake Park, Iowa. His education included the Christian Elementary School in Ocheyden, Iowa; Lake Park, Iowa, public school; the Hills Christian school; and  Western Christian High School in Hull, Iowa.  As a young man he helped his father with his grinding business and worked for local farmers. He later worked for Larson’s Hardware and Duel Manufacturing. He also joined the U.S. Army Reserve and served from 1964 until 1970.
Erwin married Faith Kroon Sept. 8, 1967, at the Reformed Church of Steen. They lived in rural Rock Rapids, Iowa, and Steen before moving to their home in Hills in 1985.  Erwin worked at Schoon’s Automotive (Papik’s Automotive) in Luverne before purchasing Henry’s 66 Service Station in Hills in 1978. 
He was a member of the Reformed Church of Steen, Puller & Tower Association, and the Hills American Legion Post No. 399.  He enjoyed camping with his family. He worked with original classic cars and attended and participated in cars shows.  He enjoyed anything that was mechanical.  Most of all, he loved his family and grandchildren.  His customers were also very important to him.
He is survived by his wife, Faith De Boer, Hills; three children, Mark (Kelly) De Boer and Sharon (Denny) Doerr, Hills, and Pamela (Shane) McMath, Rapid City, South Dakota; eleven grandchildren; two brothers, Chuck (Rheta) De Boer, Sanborn, and Burdett “Butch” De Boer, Alvord, Iowa; four sisters, Mary (Allen) Van Raalte, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Alma (Erwin) Kooistra, Rock Valley, Iowa, Mina Brandt, Remsen, Iowa, and Carmen (Greg) Dougherty, Valley Springs, South Dakota.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Berdella De Boer.
