Kermit Arthur Skorr, 75, Jasper, died Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016, at the Pipestone County Hospice House.
A funeral service was Monday, Sept. 5, at Jasper Evangelical Lutheran Church. Burial followed in Japser City Cemetery.
Kermit Skorr was born March 22, 1941, to Alf and Margaret (Birkeland) Skorr in Luverne. He attended country school south of Jasper and Jasper High School, graduating in 1959. After completing his education, he moved to South Minneapolis and worked for Thermo King for a number of years.
He met Shirley Nelson in South Minneapolis, and the two were married July 3, 1965, at Richfield Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. In 1965 the family moved to a farm east of Garretson, South Dakota. In 1968 they moved to a farm near Ihlen, and Kermit worked for Tri-State Silo. It was there that he realized his love to sell. In 1973 they moved into Jasper and have resided there until this very day.
In 1981 Kermit started his own seed selling business, Skorr Sales. In 2004 he started selling chemicals as well and continued until the end of his life. For the last year Kermit battled cancer but continued to work and enjoy life.
Kermit was a lifelong member of Jasper Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jasper and was baptized and confirmed there. He loved to build things, do carpentry work, and make decals and signs. He was a perfectionist and a proud Norwegian. He enjoyed attending sporting events of his children and grandchildren, and he loved joking around with them and telling stories. He also liked spending time at the café playing cards and drinking coffee. In years past he and Shirley loved going dancing together.
Kermit is survived by his wife, Shirley, Jasper; his children, Greg (Ronda) Skorr, Luverne, Angie (Jim) Lerdal, Brookings, South Dakota, Pam (Mike) Rice, Brookings, and Andrew (Mandy) Skorr, Appleton, Wisconsin; 12 grandchildren, Tyler Lau, Zachary (Jamilee) Lau, Michael (fiancée Haley) Lau, Jordan Lerdal, Christopher Lerdal, Jackson Skorr, Arthur Skorr, Avery Skorr, Lacey (special friend, Craigg) Skorr, Emilie Gehrke, Katelyn Skorr, and Brianna Skorr; one great-granddaughter, Lorann Skorr; three brothers, Arlen (Kay) Skorr, Merlyn (Geneva) Skorr, and Kenny Skorr; two sisters, Carol Ann Skorr, and Shirley (Mark) Piepho; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Kermit was preceded in death by his son, Steve; his parents; and one infant sister, Karen.
