Doris Mae Berning, 84, Luverne, died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016, at the Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton.
A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne. Burial will be in the St. Catherine Cemetery in Luverne. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Doris Garrett was born Aug. 11, 1932, to Garnett O. and Thelma (Potter) Garrett in Worthington. She was baptized in the Church of Christ in Worthington. She attended school in Worthington.
Doris married S. George Berning on April 21, 1950, at the parsonage at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Lismore. After their marriage the couple farmed southwest of Lismore. In 1963 they moved to the farm northeast of Adrian. They began farming southeast of Lismore in 1967. In 1984 they retired and moved to Luverne. Doris was a homemaker and also worked at Campbell’s Soup in Worthington before working at Sailor Plastics in Adrian.
She was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne and the WCCW. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening and fishing.
Doris is survived by three brothers-in-law, Alvin Berning, Adrian; Ed (Dolores) Berning, Adrian; and Jim (Rita) Berning, Owatonna; two sisters-in-law, Marie Smeins, Luverne, and Bev Garrett, Lake City; many nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George, on Aug. 24, 2010; a daughter, Arlene Housmann in 1984; three brothers, Clifford, Maynard and Gaylord Garrett; and a sister, Audra Heeren.
