School board approves employee contracts, hirings

Luverne Public School’s special education program underwent a financial and programming review during the 2015-16 school year.
Recently the school received the results from the compliance check: No corrective actions.
“Clean. Compliant. Everything was rock solid and we were real happy about that,” reported Superintendent Craig Oftedahl at the June 28 board meeting. “Hats off to our staff.”
 
In other business, school board members:
•increased bus driver compensation rates by $3 per day for regular and Sioux Falls route drivers to $84 per day; increased preschool/kindergarten route by $2.50 to $39 per day; and activity trips increased 50 cents per hour to $13.50.
•increased the two-hour food service hourly rate by 50 cents to $10.50.
•approved a 3.5 percent increase in salary to supervisory and exempt employees salaries: Business Manager Marlene Mann to $73,030; technology coordinator Wade Hiller $66,880; Brenda Teal $46,849; transportation supervisor Brad Goembel $56,925; and food service director Ann Rigney $33,208.
•approved hiring Gabrielle Bright as special education teacher at a salary of $45,129 and Caylee Tennis as physical education teacher, assistant softball coach and eighth-grade volleyball coach, $41,067.
•ratified a 3-percent increase for the 2016-2018 agreements for custodial and support staff. Support staff also received Good Friday as a paid holiday.
•accepted the retirement of two-hour food service worker Antonia VanWyhe effective June 1.
