Kevin Dwayne Martens, 56, Steen, died unexpectedly Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at his residence near Steen.
A funeral service was Monday, July 11, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hills. Burial followed at Flowerfield Cemetery near Hills.
Kevin Martens was born April 29, 1960, to James J. and Gertie (Vanden Brink) Martens in Luverne. He was raised on a family farm located on the Iowa/Minnesota border near Steen. He attended Central Lyon Elementary School in Rock Rapids, Iowa, and graduated from Hills-Beaver Creek High School in 1978. After his education Kevin continued farming with his father.
On Aug. 27, 1983, he married Coleen Bush at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hills. They lived and farmed near Steen. He later worked at Hills Elevator for several years and Ferrell Gas in Luverne. He then worked for Sanford Home Medical in Sioux Falls and most recently worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Magnolia.
He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hills. He enjoyed playing billiards, golfing and was an avid sports fan. He loved being a father and especially a grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Coleen Martens, Steen; two children, Jessica (Scott) Boelman, Luverne, and Jason (Jessica) Martens, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; a granddaughter, Emry Grace Boelman; two sisters, Carole (Roger) Bosch, Steen, and Marlys (Steve) Dirks, Luverne; a brother, Merle Martens, Valley Springs; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, Mike Hanson; and his parents-in-law, Berdell and Ione Bush.
