Karen Ardis Holst, 73, Spicer, died unexpectedly Saturday morning, July 2, at her home in Spicer.
A funeral service will be at 11 a..m. Thursday, July 7, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar. Interment will be at 1 p.m. Friday, July 8, at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Steen. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Karen Schiro was born March 31, 1943, to Marvin and Ardis (Trapp) Schiro in Hutchinson. She grew up in Hector and attended Hector schools, graduating in 1961. She then worked for Citizens State Bank in Olivia and later moved to Willmar, where she worked at Citizens National Bank.
On May 13, 1967, she married Edwin Holst at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hector. They made their home in the Spicer area. Karen ended her banking career after 28 years and worked for FSMC of Lake Lillian. She later worked in the accounting department of Walmart in Willmar until her retirement in 2009.
Karen was active in her community, serving as president of the Senior Citizens Club in Spicer, a member of the Spicer American Legion Auxiliary, and a 20-year active member of the Spicer Sunrise Lions Club. She served as president and as a tail twister in the Lions Club. Karen enjoyed reading, visiting with family and friends, going to lunch and sending greeting cards for all occasions.
She is survived by her husband, Ed Holst, Spicer; a son, Kevin (Sarah) Holst, Lafayette, Colorado; two granddaughters, Ella and Margaret Holst; a brother, Gerald (Sue) Schiro, Willmar; and other relatives and friends.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents and a sister-in-law, Jolene Schiro.
Memorials are preferred to the Lions Eye Bank in Minneapolis or Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar.
