Luverne VFW team opens season with five consecutive wins

The Luverne VFW baseball team opened the 2016 campaign in fine fashion by winning their home Buffalo Days tournament over the weekend.
Luverne followed up with a win on the road at Marshall on Monday to gain its fifth win in four days.
The 5-0 Cardinals will host Pipestone tonight and Slayton on Monday at Redbird Field.
Luverne 11, Orange 0
Luverne VFW went on the road for the first time this summer and defeated Marshall Orange 11-0 at Legion Field Monday.
Luverne’s bats came alive in the first inning with four runs scored to start the game.
The visitors followed up with two runs in the third inning and five more runs in the fourth inning to open up an eleven run lead that caused the game to be shortened to five innings.
Declan Beers pitched four innings for Luverne and had four strikeouts. Trey Roberts pitched the fifth inning for the victors.
Tyler Reisdorfer led the offense for Luverne going three for four at the plate and scoring three runs.
Beers, Jake Haugen, and Will Mumme each had two hits for the Cardinals.

Luverne 15, Pipestone 5
Luverne only needed five innings to defeat Pipestone for the championship of the Luverne Buffalo Days VFW tournament.
Tyler Reisdorfer was the starting pitcher for the home team. He pitched three innings and gave up three runs.
Nick Harder came in to pitch the final two innings and earned the win for Luverne.
Declan Beers led the offensive output for Luverne going two for three at the plate and scoring three runs.
Harder scored twice for Luverne off of his two hits and Gaige Nath had two hits and scored one run.

Jake Haugen pitched all seven innings to defeat New Ulm Silver on Sunday and reach the championship of their home tournament.
Haugen allowed only two hits and struck out four New Ulm batters.
Will Mumme and Tyler Reisdorfer each had two hits and each scored two runs in the contest.

The Cardinals won their second game of their home tournament and of the season when they defeated Tracy 6-1 on Saturday.
Tracy scored its only run of the game in the first inning.
Luverne scored one run in the first inning and five more in the second inning to cap the scoring in the game.
Jake Haugen led the offense by going two for four at the plate and scoring two runs for Luverne.
Ben Serie pitched four innings for the home team. Derek Lundgren pitched one inning and Jade Smith threw the final two innings.

Luverne opened its season with an 8-0 victory over Renner, South Dakota.
Matt Ziegler and Jade Smith pitched for Luverne and combined to give up only two hits.
Jake Haugen led the offense for the Cardinals going three for four at the plate and scoring one run.
