Deann Popkes and Jed Matthiesen were married Feb. 19, 2016, at the Palace Theatre in Luverne. The Rev. Rod Bajema officiated the ceremony.
The parents of the bride are Greg and Lori Popkes, Rock Rapids, Iowa. The groom’s parents are the late Lyle and Emily Matthiesen.
Soloist for the ceremony was the bride’s friend Benji Moser of Lester, Iowa.
The bride’s maid of honor was her sister Melinda Popkes, Rock Rapids. Bridesmaids were the bride’s sisters Kristy Mickelson, Windom, Julie Timmerman, Rock Rapids, and Katie Popkes, Rock Rapids, the bride’s cousin Ashley Folkens, Larchwood, Iowa, and the bride’s friend Amber Bjorklund, Sioux Falls.
Junior bridesmaids were the bride’s sisters Jennifer Popkes and Emily Popkes, both of Rock Rapids. Flower girls were Ashlyn Timmerman, Brooklyn Timmerman and Brynn Mickelson, nieces of the bride. The bride’s friends Natalie Hanson, Centerville, South Dakota, and Becca Steiner, Marengo, Ohio, were her personal attendants.
The groom’s friend Eric Gulden, Sioux Falls, was best man. Groomsmen, also friends of the groom, were Travis Eernisse and Dustin Groen, Sioux Falls, Brian Rients, Brandon, South Dakota, Andy Schilling, Minneapolis, and Evan Burmeister, Luverne. Ushers were Reed Metzger, cousin of the bride, Scott Matthiesen, brother of the groom, Doug Schroeder, friend of the groom, and Mike Haas, brother-in-law of the groom.
A reception at the Blue Mound Banquet Center in Luverne followed the ceremony.
The bride graduated from Central Lyon High School, Rock Rapids, Iowa, in 2006 and from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion in 2010. She is an registered nurse at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
The groom graduated from Luverne High School in 2000 and from the University of Minnesota Morris in 2005. He farms and is also a personal trainer at Sanford Family Wellness in Sioux Falls.
They live near Magnolia.
