The Luverne FCCLA Chapter had 14 students attend the state conference and compete in STAR events.
Through their hard work and dedication eight students brought home a gold placing, five students brought home a silver placing and one student brought home a bronze placing.
Zoe Brown placed first in her STAR event category, which qualifies her for the National FCCLA conference in July.
Over 1,000 middle and high school students gathered for Minnesota FCCLA’s (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) annual State Leadership Conference at the DoubleTree Hotel April 14-16.
This year’s student-created theme was “Agents of Change” celebrating the organization’s 70th birthday.
Another feature at the state conference included participation in over 30 different categories through STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) events.
Chapter members gave presentations about projects they’ve organized and executed this past year (having advanced from Regional competitions) for an opportunity to attend the National Leadership Conference in San Diego this summer.
Projects covered a wide scope of current issues that address anything from bullying, to fitness, to traffic safety.
FCCLA—a nationwide Career and Technical Student Organization—helps students develop leadership skills and address important societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education.
The organization nationally has over 200,000 members from 50 state associations, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands, involving over 10 million youth since its founding in 1945.
