Hazel V. Pedersen, 92, died Monday, April 11, 2016, at Avera Dougherty Hospice House, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
A funeral service was Friday, April 15, at Grace Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Hazel Horge was born Sept. 4, 1923, to Ole and Rena (Sundem) Horge in Hills. She graduated from Luverne High School in 1941. After graduation she moved to Sioux Falls and attended Nettleton College of Business to study shorthand, typing and bookkeeping.
Hazel married Howard Pedersen on Oct. 13, 1946, in Hills. Hazel was the bookkeeper for her husband’s business, Pedersen Construction. The couple owned Harney Campground near Keystone, South Dakota, in the 1970s. They also owned and operated Tolly’s Café in Beresford, South Dakota.
Hazel was a life member of Grace Lutheran Church and a life member of the VFW Auxiliary, along with being a member of Sons of Norway. The family enjoyed camping and boating together.
Hazel is survived by six children, Sandra Pedersen, Sioux Falls, LeRoy (Howie) Pedersen, Omaha, Nebraska, Gary (Corey) Pedersen, Sioux Falls, Rodney Pedersen, Vermillion, South Dakota, Darryl (Pam) Pedersen, Sioux Falls, Tamara (R.F.) Buche, Sioux Falls; 15 grandchildren, Shane Pedersen, Justin (Alexis) Pedersen, Kris Heckart, Joe Pedersen, Ryan Pedersen, Marcus Pedersen, Carly Pedersen, Ross (Sam) Pedersen, Heather Pedersen, Heidi Pedersen, Taylor Pedersen, Molly Buche, Shannon Olson, Gus Buche, Grace Buche; and six great-grandchildren, Autumn Pedersen, Rhiley Pedersen, Daviney Pedersen, Marlee Jacomet and Jamarius and Julius Job.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a brother, O dean, a sister, Madelyn, a granddaughter, Kayla, and a grandson, Brady.
