Luverne students earn trip to National BPA Conference

Two members of the Luverne High School Business Professionals of America will travel to the National BPA Conference Contests in Boston next month.
Jim Erickson and Chris Jelken qualified for the national contest by placing sixth or better in their respective events at the recent state contest.
Erickson placed fifth in spreadsheet design and analysis test. Jelken was sixth in fundamental web design.
Carter Riphagen placed seventh in fundamental web design at the state contest.
The Luverne team sent 12 students to the regional contests in Granite Falls.
Erickson placed first in spreadsheet design and analysis test.
Jelken placed second in fundamental website design; second, financial analysis test; third, administrative assistant test; fifth, business meeting management test and second in web design team with Riphagen, Connor Peterson and Griffin Ahrendt.
Riphagen also placed third in fundamentals of web design and third on the financial analysis test.
Ahrendt also placed fifth on the financial analysis test.
Bergin Flom placed third in spreadsheet design and analysis.
Isaac Gillette placed fifth in spreadsheet design and analysis.
Layne Curtis earned third place in graphic design.
Other team members include Carly Serie, Madi Schandelmeier, Zayna Hustoft, Griffin Ahrendt and Kasyn Kruse.
According to adviser Diane Erickson, Luverne hasn’t had students qualify for the national conference contests for several years. This year’s conference will take place May 5-9.
The Luverne Optimist Club is helping sponsor a portion of the students’ trip to conference.
BPA was founded to aid students in developing leadership and business skills in the United States. Students can complete in more than 50 events. BPA focuses on teamwork, leadership, career skill development and building connections with other people.
