Local natural resources agency seeks volunteers

The Rock County Natural Resources Conservation Service is looking for volunteers to assist with the agency’s education and outreach events.
In recognition of National Volunteer Week April 10-16, NRCS is encouraging more people to volunteer locally and to thank those who gave of their time in 2015 through their Earth Team volunteer program.
Earth Team partners volunteers with NRCS employees. Created in 1985, the program offers opportunities to individuals, age 14 and older, to improve the nation’s natural resources.
“In some of our field offices, high school and college students gain valuable experience for their careers while working as a volunteer,” said Stephanie McLain, the Earth Team volunteer coordinator for southwest Minnesota.
In southwest Minnesota, 250 people volunteered 3,894 hours in 2015 or nearly $90,000 in value. Last year, no volunteers participated in Rock County.
To learn more about the Earth Team program or to volunteer, contact McLain at 507-376-9150 ext. 114 or online at www.nrcs.usda.gov/earthteam.
