On the Record Jan. 15-21, 2016

Jan. 15
•Complainant reported vandalism to her vehicle and she thinks she knows who did it.
•Complainant reported vandalism to her vehicle and it’s the same suspect as before.
•Deputy arrested subject for DWI and took him to jail.
•City Public Works reported they would be burning the tree pile today.
•Complainant brought in some spent shotgun shells that he found. Deputy said they probably fell out of a pickup and could be disposed of.
•Complainant reported she got a text message and needs to speak to a deputy about it right away.
•Complainant reported he got a scam call saying they were from Publishers Clearing House and he won the big prize, but it wouldn’t be delivered until he sent them $250. He was told never to send money to anyone if they say he “won” something.
•Complainant reported a fire alarm at 509 East Main Street. Paged Luverne Fire Department. Contacted key holder. Deputies report there is water rushing down the stairs.
•Deputy did an escort for money drop at bank.
•Deputy stopped on Highway 23 to check out an abandoned vehicle. No one in the vehicle. Notified State Patrol.
Jan. 16
•Complainant reported two runners from Southwest Youth Services (SYS). Notified sergeant that all cars are headed to Magnolia. Nobles County sent a dog, and State Patrol joined the search. Requested ambulance on standby. Paged at 7:45 p.m. and deputy reported two in custody. Transported to the ambulance waiting at SYS. Deputy reported ambulance is transporting two to hospital and he will be riding along. SYS will transport the boys to the juvenile detention center in Sioux Falls.
•Complainant requested a welfare check on subject. He is sure she is dead. Subject called back and said she is trying to block him because of the texts he is sending her. Contacted complainant and told him to stop contacting her.
•Deputy did money escort from liquor store to bank.
•Dispatch received a 911 call with no one on the line. This has been an issue with this phone. She has worked with the phone company and they are trying to figure out why it happens even when no one is around.
Jan. 17
•Complainant reported that she and her boyfriend were at a bar in Hardwick with two other couples. Her boyfriend got upset and left. He is wearing only a bright yellow zip-up hoodie, blue jeans and tennis shoes. No hat, gloves or coat. She does not know where he went, but he is outside. Deputies and State Patrol went to Hardwick. Subject was found shortly at 12:57 a.m.
•Complainant reported that he and another person were stuck in the elevator at the east entrance. The elevator was not working, and they couldn’t get out. Deputies went to the location and followed instructions. They could not reset the elevator but were able to speak to parties in the elevator, and contact a maintenance person. Deputies were able to pry the door open to get parties out. Out-of-service stickers put on all floors.
•Dispatch received a 911 call from a cell phone with on one on the line. Tried calling him back two times and left a message. Sent deputy to do a welfare check.
•Complainant reported a black truck has been parked on the 200 block of North McKenzie Street running all night. It is rather noisy. Deputy reported it is a diesel and most likely running to keep from jelling up. Parked in the city’s parking lot.
Complainant requested assistance picking up her child for a dance recital. She said they have an agreement not to restrict activities. She does not have a written copy with her. As per deputy, one of the girls is already with her mom. The other one will go to the recital with her dad. Settled for now.
•Complainant reported a vehicle abandoned on Highway 75. No one around. Gave to patrol.
•Complainant requested to speak with a deputy about her ex and some charges he may be facing.
•Complainant reported a male walking northbound on Highway 23 north of Jasper. Transferred to patrol.
•Deputy warned subject for failure to dim his lights.
•Deputy stopped a vehicle and warned subject for dragging an object under the car and his driving conduct.
•Deputy conducted door checks in Hills.
•Deputy checked on unoccupied vehicle at location. Notified State Patrol.
Jan. 18
•Complainant reported a black truck running in parking lot at Luverne and McKenzie. Deputy advised it is a diesel pickup and the owner has been running it the last couple of nights due to the cold.
•Dispatch received a 911 call from the area near McDonald’s. No voice on answer. Sounded like it may have been a pocket dial. Called McDonald’s and verified that nothing was going on in the store or parking lot.
•Complainant reported a cell phone stolen at the school.
•Complainant reported phone calls she received that seemed like a scam, but she was concerned because they started calling her daughter. Daughter of complainant advised her it was for credit card debt. Complainant said she did not have credit card debt. Deputy advised complainant if papers were served, it would have been through the sheriff’s office, and it sounds like a scam.
•Deputy did money escort from liquor store to bank.
Jan. 19
•Reserved for patrolling school zone.
•Complainant reported a fire. He was north of Jasper. Transferred to Pipestone 911.
•Minnwest Bannk on South Kniss reported a counterfeit bill and requested a deputy to pick it up.
•Complainant reported someone was hauling carpet, and it was coming off the vehicle. Hard to understand complainant. Transferred to State Patrol.
•Complainant reported a release of material into the air from the facility due to unknown causes. Caller gets a headache from the smell. Location is New Vision Co-op in Hills. Duty officer was notified.
Complainant reported a vulnerable adult report they received.
•Complainant reported they are missing a trailer. They think it may have been taken as far back as Dec. 24, 2015, from the south end of the parking lot. Trailer entered as stolen into state system.
•Complainant requested check on subject. Deputy conducted welfare check. Subject is fine.
•Complainant reported he took two tractors, two motorcycles, and a pickup to subject to fix, and subject sold the items.
•Complainant requested welfare checks throughout the night on subject sleeping in his car. He is to go to the clinic tomorrow to get a check.
•Deputy escorted money to the bank.
Jan. 20
•McDonald’s reported there has been a champagne-colored car in the parking lot parked kitty corner into the handicapped spot on the south side of the building. He did come in for coffee, but went back out and was just sitting in his car. Deputy went to location. Status on driver is cancelled. Deputy asked dispatch to contact his son to come and get him.
•Complainant requested another welfare check on subject. He was told of his appointment with the clinic today and said he would go.
•Complainant requested welfare check on subject.
•Deputy arrested subject for probation violation.
•Complainant reported that her brother is homeless and from the Sioux Falls area. His mother brought him to Luverne and paid for a week at a local motel and now he won’t take a ride back to Sioux Falls with her. Complainant called back and said he agreed to go back to Sioux Falls.
•Deputy removed a garbage can from Main Street and put it on the sidewalk.
•Reserved for school patrol.
•Complainant reported parenting issues.
•Complainant reported there is a loose piece of steel on the railroad tracks. Contacted railroad.
•Complainant reported a gray van driving around town. They are trying to sell something. Deputy spoke to the mayor, unaware of a permit. They were advised to check in with city hall, so they are aware they are in town.
•Reserved for emergency response unit training.
•Complainant reported that earlier today they put out a fire in the insulation at location. Now they smell smoke again. Will get wife and kids out of the house to a safe location. Paged Luverne Fire Department.
Jan. 21
•Complainant reported that each morning for the last four days, between 6 a.m. and 6:15 a.m., a pickup, unknown description, is pulling a flatbed trailer with square bales. No lights or reflective triangles on the trailer. Complainant is concerned someone is going to hit the trailer. Notified deputy and State Patrol.
•Complainant from BNSF reported that their crossing bar at location was hit and they do have someone on the way to repair it.
•Complainant requested to have something notarized.
•Complainant requested a welfare check on subject.
•Complainant requested a welfare check on subject. She didn’t show up for work today and called in to say she quit for personal reasons. She was OK and had sent them a letter.
•Complainant reported she was scammed on the computer, and now he is calling her cell phone. She was advised to call her credit card company, block the number and contact the Attorney General’s Office.
•Complainant reported Highway 75 is very slick.
•Complainant reported he is driving a school bus and can’t wake up a 14-year-old boy. They are headed to the emergency room.
In addition, officers responded to 11 traffic stops, 3 vehicles in ditch, 2 stalled vehicles, 1 transport, 14 ambulance runs, 2 parking violations, 1 false alarm, 2 fingerprint requests, 7 log/alarm sheets, 3 drug court tests, and issued 9 purchase/carry permits and 23 burn permits.
