Glen Gust of Glen’s Food Center, Luverne, announced this week that he purchased the gas and convenience store from Palisade Oil, Garretson.

• Of the more than 2,000 residences in Luverne, 349 have chosen to save money for themselves and for the city of Luverne by signing up for the load management program. ...
During the months of June, July and August, the city shut off the air conditioning of participants a total of 19 hours each. ...

The increase in the levy is due in main to the fact that the last of the 1956 issue of hospital bonds must be paid this year, and the payment is bigger than in other years because of the way the bond issue was drawn.

•Rock county men between the ages of 21 to 36 went to their voting precincts yesterday to register for the first peace-time compulsory training in the history of the nation.
At the time the Star went to press, 308 had registered in the four Luverne precincts alone.

•A contract for the erection of a substantial new manse for the Presbyterian society was awarded to Greene & Jensen at a meeting of the building committee of the church Wednesday evening. The cost will be approximately $4,500, and work will be started at once.
