•Rock County Commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to approve the bond for the Law Enforcement Center of $1.75 million at 4.3 percent interest.
 
20 years ago (1995)
•Bruce Baartman, Luverne, is the new technology coordinator for the Luverne School District. He started work Sept. 25. While his temporary office looks like a warehouse for computer supplies right now, he’s already busy.
Crews from Ed Tech are working nights to install cable and connections for the computer network in the Luverne Middle School/High School building by Nov. 1.
 
50 years ago (1965)
•A scarlet arrow will be the symbol of the Luverne Community Fund and the slogan of the drive for funds will be “Help the Red Arrow Hit the Mark.” The Red Arrow was selected for the official emblem because it is symbolic of this Sioux country.
The community campaign for 11 different agencies is scheduled to start in Luverne October 28 or 29, according to Ray Frick, general chairman.
The committee on budget and agency relations, headed by Dick Creeger, has set up a goal of $9,500 for Luverne’s first campaign.

•Farmers and city dwellers alike from the entire county are expected to be on hand Tuesday to witness the agriculture classic of the year — the county corn husking contest. ...
Among those who will try for the county title and for the opportunity to compete against other county winners for the district title in Martin county on October 22 are Glenn Leech, Alvin Priesz, Alfred Wahlert, Kenneth Shade, and Henry Smith of Luverne; Paul Metzger, of Hills; Herbert Ross, Sherman; Fritz De Groot, Magnolia, and Merten Peterson, of Hardwick.
