Evelyn Alink

 

Evelyn Hannah Alink, 97, rural Hermosa, South Dakota, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015.

A graveside inurnment service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015, at South Park Cemetery in Roswell, New Mexico.

Evelyn Nelson was born to Paul and Sarah (Fletcher) Nelson on Oct. 17, 1917, in Stockholm, South Dakota. Her family moved to Irene, South Dakota. When Irene was five years old, her mother died. She then lived in a foster home for five years. When her father remarried, she and her siblings lived with him and their stepmother on a farm near Viborg, South Dakota. She worked in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, for three years.

On Oct. 16, 1942, she married Elmer Alink in Luverne. They farmed near Luverne before retiring and moving to Roswell in 1977. After Elmer died in December 1981, she continued to reside in their home for 20 years before moving to Villa Del Rey retirement Village in Roswell. In April 2010 she moved back to South Dakota to live with her son, Paul, and his wife, Mary.

She loved and lived the true teachings of the Bible. She enjoyed writing and receiving letters, crafts and rock collecting.

Evelyn is survived by four sons, Robert (Sharon) Alink, Sioux Falls, Roger (Terrie) Alink, and Dale (Michelle) Alink, all of Edgewood, New Mexico, and Paul (Mary) Alink, Hermosa; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Alink; her parents; a brother, Roger Alink; and a sister, Lucille.
