Carolyn De Boer, 56, Beaver Creek, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2015, at Sanford Medical Center in Luverne.
A funeral service was Saturday, Sept. 19, at First Presbyterian Church in Beaver Creek. Burial of cremains was at Beaver Creek Cemetery with full military rites presented by Dell Hogan American Legion Post #123 and Rock County VFW Post #2757.
Carolyn Vis was born Feb. 13, 1959, to John G. and Nelvina (Lolkus) Vis in Chandler. Carolyn attended the Chandler Christian Grade School and graduated from Chandler-Lake Wilson High School. She later attended Southeast Area Vo Tech. She served in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1977 to 1980.
On Feb. 8, 1980, Carolyn married Lyle De Boer at the American Reformed Church in Luverne. After their marriage the couple lived in Beaver Creek. Carolyn worked in various occupations including nurse’s aid, warehousing, manufacturing and bookkeeping.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Beaver Creek since 1992. She served as a Sunday school teacher, session member and on other committees. Carolyn also served as the church organist since 1993. She was a member of the Beaver Creek City Council and was currently serving as mayor. She enjoyed attending auctions, reading, fishing, baking, flowers and gardening.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Lyle De Boer, Beaver Creek; three children, Paul (Amber) De Boer, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Kristy (Darrin) Trower, Sherman, South Dakota, and Lyle “Bud” Jr. (Jody) De Boer, Hills; six grandchildren, Preston, Caitlyn, Mataya and Blaine Trower, and Sage and Londyn De Boer; her father and stepmother, John (Gen) Vis, Chandler; two sisters, Char De Groot, Luverne, and Marilyn (Lloyd) De Boer, Beaver Creek; a brother-in-law, Darrell (Rita) De Boer, Beaver Creek; and two stepsiblings, Glenda (Greg) Tuenissen, Denver, Colorado, and Don (Deb) Buys, Chandler.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Nelvina Vis; a sister, Darlene Vis; her mother- and father-in-law, Peter and Augusta De Boer; and a brother-in-law, Larry De Groot.
