The Rock County Commissioners hosted an employee appreciation picnic lunch Tuesday, Sept. 8, at the Rock County Highway Department on North Blue Mound Avenue. The event had not been conducted for several years. Serving the meal (from left) were County Administrator Kyle Oldre and Commissioners Ron Boyenga, Jody Reisch, Stan Williamson, Sherri Thompson and Ken Hoime.
At the picnic Commissioner Sherri Thompson presented A.C.E. of SW Minnesota, Rock County, Coordinator Greta VanDerBrink with a birthday cake in honor of her 79th birthday and the official announcement of her retirement.
“I don’t think the program would be where it is today without Greta,” said Michelle Baumhoefner, A.C.E. of SW Minnesota director. Baumhoefner and VanDerBrink met with the commissioners during their regular monthly meeting earlier in the day. Baumhoefner said the Rock County volunteer program is the largest in the seven-county area with 520 people assisting 67 agencies and organizations in the county this past year. Vander Brink coordinated the 64,196 hours the volunteers completed in 2014.
VanDerBrink will retire at the end of the year.
