10 years ago (2005)
•Rock County received updated drawings for the new Law  Enforcement Center to be constructed on Blue Mound Avenue between the Rock County Highway Department and Family Services buildings.
Construction will start this spring if the county bonds in December for up to $1.75 million of the $2 million project.
 
20 years ago (1995)
•Luverne City Administrator Doug Bunkers has resigned effective Oct. 31. City Attorney Don Klosterbuer presented a severance agreement to the City Council Monday.
 
50 years ago (1965)
•The Hills-Beaver Creek high school athletic teams will be known as the “Patriots.” Students picked the nickname yesterday, it was announced by Dean Deragisch, high school principal. School colors will be red, white and blue.
Runner-up in the choice of the team nickname was the “Vikings.”
 
75 years ago (1940)
•Rock county and its 12 townships will lose approximately $12,000 per year in gas tax receipts as a result of the one cent reduction in the Minnesota gasoline tax which became effective last Sunday. The state gas levy dropped from four to three cents per gallon under the legislation passed at the 1939 session of the state legislature.
 
100 years ago (1915)
•Manager Herman Jochims, of the New Palace theatre, has announced that the formal opening of the play house has been postponed until Tuesday evening, September 28th, owing to the inability to get the building entirely completed by September 22nd, the date previously decided upon. The dance hall will be fully complete by the last mentioned date, however, and Mr. Jochims will hold dances there during the fair.
