Jeanette Goebel, 92, Luverne, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2015, at the Mary Jane Brown Good Samaritan Home in Luverne.
A funeral service was Friday, Aug. 28, at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne. Burial was at St. Catherine Cemetery.
Jeanette Kahoun was born June 15, 1923, to Vincent and Mary (Zientek) Kahoun in Sioux City, Iowa. She graduated from Central High School, Sioux City, in 1941 and from Morningside College, Sioux City, in 1945.
On Sept. 22, 1946, Jeanette married Kenneth “Kenny” Goebel at The Cathedral in Sioux City. After their marriage the couple lived in Sioux City where Jeanette taught at Morningside College. In 1948 they moved to Luverne. The couple owned and operated Kenny’s on Main Street in Luverne. In 1962 they built Kenny’s Super Valu one block south of Main Street. After retirement they enjoyed wintering in Haines City, Florida, with other Luverne area retirees.
She was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne, the WCCW, Pink Ladies, Red Hat Society, Rock County Historical Society and the Luverne VFW Ladies Auxiliary, of which she had served as past president. Jeanette was an avid bridge player, enjoyed pinochle, golfing and traveling to casinos.
Jeanette is survived by three children, Larry (Deb) Goebel, Luverne, Jane (David) Bockman, Atlanta, Georgia, and Mark (Liz) Goebel, Fridley; seven grandchildren, Ryan, Claire, Brandon, Jenny, Shane, Seth and Devon; five great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenny Goebel, in 1983; a son, John Goebel, in 1971; and a brother, Charles Kahoun.
