Betty Ann Lorenzen

 

Betty Ann Lorenzen, 88, Hardwick, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015, at Sanford Hospital in Luverne.

A funeral service was Tuesday, Sept. 1, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hardwick with burial following the service at Memory Gardens Cemetery near Luverne.

Betty Ann Schmidt was born Aug. 15, 1927, to John and Leona (Oehlerts) Schmidt in Luverne. She was baptized on Jan. 25, 1928, and confirmed on July 6, 1941, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Luverne. She was raised on the family farm near Hardwick and attended District No. 69 country school through the eighth grade. She attended Luverne High School and graduated in 1945. She furthered her education at a business school in Minneapolis. She then traveled to Chicago, Illinois, for a job opportunity at the Children’s Memorial Hospital. After returning home to Hardwick, she worked at the Ben Franklin store in Pipestone.

On April 23, 1947, Betty Ann married Elvin Lorenzen at the Methodist Parsonage in Lake Benton. The couple made their home on a farm northeast of Hardwick. The majority of Betty Ann’s life was spent on the farm. She enjoyed driving tractor, working in the fields, gardening, flower work and canning. In 1986 the couple moved to Hardwick. Her husband died July 11, 1991. She continued to live at her home until January 2015 when she moved to Poplar Creek Assisted Living in Luverne.

Betty Ann was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hardwick. She was a lifelong member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Hardwick, serving for 65 years. She belonged to the “Hi Neighbor” Birthday Club her entire life. She enjoyed sharing a cup of coffee with family and friends. She spent many hours crocheting and playing pinochle.

Betty Ann is survived by two children, David Lorenzen, Hardwick, and Dianne (Rodger) Ossenfort, Luverne; five grandchildren, Shawn, Heather, Naomi, Matthew, and Monti; 10 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Elvin Lorenzen.
