10 years ago (2005)
•The search for a new Luverne city administrator narrowed to five finalists Tuesday.
They are John Call, Storm Lake, Iowa; Mark Erickson, Lakefield; Greg Fritz, Pocahontas, Iowa; Steven C. Jones, Montevideo; and Randy Lenth, Lake City.
 
20 years ago (1995)
•Luverne police officer Russ Monson is excited about his new job in Isanti County, near Cambridge, but he said leaving Luverne is going to be very hard.
Monson will be Isanti County’s Community Oriented Policing Program Deputy. He will serve as a D.A.R.E. program officer, head up the community watch program, facilitate an Explorer post, a program for kids to explore different careers, and he will take care of administrative duties.
 
50 years ago (1965)
•Education of Rock County’s public school children cost 1 3/4 million during the last school year, which ended June 30, 1965. This was revealed in the annual financial statement of the county schools, compiled by Harvey G. Eitreim, county school administrator.
 
75 years ago (1940)
•The finest horse show ever presented in Rock county was witnessed by a capacity crowd at the county fair Sunday afternoon, the closing day of the event. Expert riders and nearly a hundred horses from Minnesota, Iowa, and South Dakota took part in the event.
 
100 years ago (1915)
•Bids for the construction of a concrete reservoir of 330,000 gallon capacity for use in connection with Luverne’s flowing well will be received by the common council at an adjourned meeting to be held next Tuesday evening. It is expected that the contract will be awarded at that time, so that the reservoir can easily be completed before winter.
The reservoir is to be located northeast of the new power station adjoining the flowing well.
