10 years ago (2005)
•The city of Luverne is on its way to a more historic look downtown with the addition of stone light poles this summer. The poles are topped with antique-like globes and are shorter than the current lights. Planning ahead for aesthetics, the Luverne City Council is opting to remove other signage that may clutter the look of downtown.
 
25 years ago (1995)
•When the Luverne School District upgrades its computer networking system this fall, it also needs to consider hiring someone who will know how the school can utilize that system to full capacity. Luverne School Board members discussed hiring a technology coordinator during their Thursday night meeting, July 27.
 
50 years ago (1965)
•If you’re living in north Luverne’s affected area you are now on Rural Route No. 1. Despite petitions and pleas, the regional post office officials maintain an adamant attitude and refuse to soften their previous stand regarding “rural mail service” inside the city of Luverne.
 
75 years ago (1940)
•The new 1940 telephone directory, containing 1,386 listings compared to 1,058 in the 1939 directory, was delivered this week to telephone subscribers serviced by the Luverne exchange. The new directory contains 20 pages, four more than last year.
 
100 years ago (1915)
•The new triplex pump purchased for general use at the municipal power plant was installed the latter part of last week and has been in operation since Sunday afternoon, when final connections were completed. The pump has a capacity of 180 gallons of water per minute and is operated by a geared motor of 15 horse power.
