Summer fifth-grade band lessons
Summer fifth grade band lessons will be in the Luverne High School band room Monday, Aug. 3, to Thursday, Aug. 6, and Monday, Aug. 10, to Thursday, Aug. 13. Lesson times are as follows: Flutes 1-1:30 p.m.; Clarinets 1:30-2 p.m.; Saxophones 2-2:30 p.m.; Trumpets 2:30-3 p.m.; Trombones 3-3:30 p.m.; Baritones/Tubas 3:30-4 p.m.; Percussion 4-4:30 p.m. Contact Angie Swenson at a.swenson@isd2184.net or 507-290-0147.
 
Bank Nite movie ‘Home’ at Palace Aug. 6
The free Bank Nite movie, “Home,” will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, at the Palace Theatre in Luverne.
Sponsored by First Farmers & Merchants National Bank and Papik Motors, a free, family-friendly movie is shown on the first Thursday of every month as it was done for “Bank Nite” in the 1930s. A cash prize drawing will follow the movie. Must be present to win. Last month’s $50 cash winner was Maggie VanderBurg.
 
‘Capture the Prairie’ exhibit at the Carnegie
The Carnegie is currently featuring a display by photographer Deb Leilani Parks, including photos taken at Blue Mounds State Park by her “Capture the Prairie” photography class. The exhibit is on display now until the end of July at the Carnigie Cultural Center in Luverne.

The Luverne Community Education office will be closed from July 17 through July 31.
Play Dates at the Park for parents and their children ages birth to 5 years meets at 10 a.m. Wednesdays in the city park throughout the summer.  Gather as a group to have fun and socialize. No fee, but registration required, please.
School Readiness Preschool program has openings for children ages 3-5 years. The program will meet once a week during the school year on Tuesday morning or Tuesday afternoon. Scholarship help is available. Call 283-4724 for more details.
