•Family Dollar will occupy the 11,200-square-foot building recently vacated by Luverne True Value and Country  Store.
Gary and Nate Golla finalized the sale of the building on June 16 to Minneapolis developer Anxon Inc., which in turn is leasing it to Family Dollar.
 
25 years ago (1995)
•When the U.S. Open Golf Championship comes to the Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Don and Betty Cashin will be working the tournament in what he likes to refer to as the finance department. Don and Betty will be selling food and drink tickets in the Hazeltine club house.
 
50 years ago (1965)
•“It’s been so wet this spring that I have to get up every morning at 3 o’clock to pump out my well, or it gets too full,” says Mrs. Elsie Herschberger, Kenneth.
It’s no joke for Mrs. Herschberger. She’s hoping for some dry weather, and so are a lot of other people in Kenneth and Hardwick who have water in their basements.

•Residents of Rock county this week began digging down into their jeans to help Uncle Sam raise $5,6661,910,337 for national defense. At the stroke of 12 last Sunday night, new federal taxes went into effect throughout the United States on items considered as luxuries. ...
On cigarets, the price on all ten cent brands rose to 13 cents per package, while the other brands are now 15 cents straight. Three costlier brands, ordinarily selling at 15 cents have been raised to 18 cents in most places in Luverne.
 
100 years ago (1915)
•The Luverne Gun club’s annual tournament will start this morning for a two days’ shoot, the program for which calls for a total of twenty-five events. The club will offer $150 in added money, and all amateur trap shooters are invited to participate in the tournament.
Each day’s program provides for two 15-target events and one special 25-target event, the latter with distance handicap.
