ISD #2184 School Board meets April 23
MINUTES OF THE SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS OF INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 2184, ROCK COUNTY, LUVERNE, MINNESOTA.
A special meeting was held in the District Office on April 23, 2015, at 6:00 p.m. for Negotiation Strategy. A regular meeting of the Board of Education, ISD #2184, was held in the District Office on April 23, 2015, at 7:00 p.m.
The following members were present: Katie Baustian, Jodi Bosch, Colleen Deutsch, Eric Hartman, Dave Riphagen, Shelley Sandbulte and Reva Sehr.  Also present:  Gary Fisher, Marlene Mann, Ryan Johnson, Marie Atkinson-Smeins, Knute Oldre, Madison Crabtree, Jacob VanSanten, Travis Kriens Р K101/KQAD Radio, and Mavis Fodness Р Rock County Star Herald.
Chairperson Dave Riphagen called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance. Motion made by Deutsch, second by Hartman, to close the meeting for negotiation strategy. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Deutsch, second by Hartman, to move out of closed session at 7:00 p.m. Motion unanimously carried. Motion made by Baustian, second by Deutsch, to take a two minutes recess before starting the regular meeting. Motion unanimously carried. Motion made by Hartman, second by Bosch, to open the regular meeting. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Deutsch, second by Baustian, to approve the agenda as presented.  Motion unanimously carried.
Marie Atkinson-Smeins, Elementary Counselor, presented information on her programs and the students she worked with during the past school year.
Administrative reports were given.  
Motion made by Baustian, second by Bosch, to approve the School Board minutes from the April 9 and April 16 meetings as presented. Motion unanimously carried.
Business Manager Marlene Mann reviewed the school district bills. Motion made by Sandbulte, second by Deutsch, to approve payment of the bills as presented in the amount of $1,353,283.43. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Deutsch, second by Hartman, to receive the Student Activity Report showing the balances as of March 31, 2015. Motion unanimously carried.
Superintendent Fisher reviewed the Special Education Extended School Year needs for summer programs. Motion made by Baustian, second by Sehr, to approve the extended school year plans as presented. Motion unanimously carried.
Superintendent Fisher reviewed the Extended Contracts for agriculture, band, school psychologist, high school counselor, school social worker and technology intregation specialist. Motion made by Deutsch, second by Hartman, to approve the extended contracts as presented. Motion unanimously carried.
Superintendent Fisher reviewed the Elementary School curriculum work to be completed this summer. Motion made by Hartman, second by Bosch, to approve the summer curriculum hours as presented. Motion unanimously carried.
Superintendent Fisher reviewed the letter received from County Administrator Kyle Oldre regarding a Tax Abatement for Fiber Optic Project within Rock County. Motion made by Baustian, second by Sehr, to deny the tax abatement.  Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Baustian, second by Deutsch, to approve the hiring of Brad Goembel as Transportation Supervisor effective May 1, 2015, for a salary of $55,000. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Sandbulte, second by Hartman, to approve a request from Southwest Minnesota State University for Dana Kells to complete her student teaching with Lucinda Rofshus, Elementary teacher, August through December, 2015. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Deutsch, second by Bosch, to accept the retirement of Enore Boelman, two-hour food service worker, effective at the end of the school year. Motion unanimously carried.
Committee reports were given. The upcoming meeting dates were reviewed.  
Motion made by Deutsch, second by Baustian, to adjourn the meeting. Motion unanimously carried.
