Adrian High School golf teams qualify three for state individual tournament

Three members of the Adrian High School golf program qualified for the state tournament during the Section 3A Golf Championships staged May 27 in Marshall.
Two Dragon boys and one girl nailed three of the 10 individual berths into state play that were up for grabs at the section meet.
The AHS trio will play in the Minnesota State Class A Golf Tournament that is set for June 9-10 at the Pebble Creek Golf Course in Becker.
Junior Jada Elias qualified for the state tournament individually for an AHS girls’ squad that competed as a team in Marshall.
With Elias leading the way by firing an 88, the Dragons placed third in a four-team field that was led by Minneota with 366 strokes.
Windom (370), Adrian (407) and Russell-Tyler-Ruthton (466) capped the field.
Katie Wieneke made a bid to advance to state individually as well.
Wieneke registered a 93, which enabled her to participate in a three-way playoff for the final position into the state tournament.
Unfortunately for the AHS senior, Windom’s Hanna Rahn won the playoff.
Along with Elias and Wieneke, Mackenzie Wagner and Madelyn Odell added 100- and 122-stroke rounds to Adrian’s team tally.
Alexia Kemper and Courtney Penning registered 126- and 131-stroke rounds without impacting the scoring.
Adrian ends team competiton with a 28-10 overall record.
Other individuals advancing to state for the girls are Westbrook-Walnut Grove’s Abby Herding (84), Lakeview’s Whitney Fischer (89) and Windom’s Leigh Hanefeld (92).
Four AHS boys competed individually at the section tournament and two of them punched their tickets to the state tournament.
Senior Collin Kemper and junior Ryan Elias recorded 88-stroke rounds to qualify for the state classic.
Senior Ben Henning, who advanced to the last two state tournaments, fell one stroke short of becoming a part of a playoff for the fifth qualifying position after carding a 90.
Tommy McCarthy recorded a 100 at the event for AHS.
Hills-Beaver Creek senior Justin Sandbulte capped his career by shooting a 104 at the section meet.
Other boys advancing to state include Tracy-Milroy-Balaton’s Devin Skalak (84) and Windom’s Kyle Antes (86) and Tylan Porath (89).
