Cards advance in section tennis

The Luverne Cardinals experienced little trouble in disposing of the MACCRAY Wolverines during a quarterfinal round match of the Section 3A Team Tennis Tournament Monday in Luverne.

Top-seeded LHS won all seven matches in straight sets against an overmatched Wolverines squad.

“Everybody did their jobs and we beat them pretty soundly. We went out and played like the No. 1 seed,” said LHS coach Greg Antoine.

Prevailing in singles for the Cards were Erik Wohnoutka (6-0, 6-1 over Henri Menz at No. 1), Cory Stroeh (6-1, 6-2 over Ben Burner at No. 2), Jacob Jarchow (6-0, 6-1 over Ian Anderson at No. 3) and Trey Baustian (6-0, 6-0 over Kevin Miles at No. 4).

Dalton Schoneman and Chris Jelken posted a pair of 6-0 wins against Nathan Eisenmenger and Ben Burner at first doubles, while Mark Robinson and Cade VerSteeg prevailed by the same scores against Noah Johnson and Levi Sparks at No. 2.

Tanner Baustian and Isaac Gillette notched 6-1 and 6-2 victories against Alex Spence and Jaden Woltjer at third doubles.
