Redbirds fall in 2015 debut

The Luverne Redbirds came up on the short end of a tight decision during their 2015 amateur baseball debut at Redbird Field May 13.

Hadley scored four runs in the first three innings of the game and that proved to be enough production to give the Buttermakers a 4-3 victory.

Hadley, which produced two-run rallies in the first and third innings, never trailed in the game.

Luverne plated single runs in the second, fourth and seventh innings, but the Redbirds couldn’t overcome Hadley’s offensive production early in the game.

Skylar Wenninger, who led the hosts with four hits, singled home a run in the second inning and Joey Slieter added an RBI single in the fourth.

Codie Zeutenhorst belted a home run over the left-field fence to cap the scoring in the seventh inning.

Zeutenhorst was charged with the pitching loss after throwing seven innings of eight-hit, four-run (three were earned), nine-strikeout ball.

Andrew DeBoer relieved Zeutenhorst in the eighth inning and retired six consecutive batters.
