Girls place third at golf invitational

The Luverne girls’ golf team turned in a strong showing at an invitational staged at the Oakdale Golf Course near Buffalo Lake Thursday.

Competing in a field of nine complete teams, the Cardinals placed third overall with 374 strokes.

Minnewaska Area (319) and Marshall (332) led the field, while Morris (385), Worthington (411), New Ulm (425), New London-Spicer (455), Fairmont (464) and Montevideo (486) capped the standings.

Madison Crabtree placed ninth individually and Hannah VerSteeg finished 11th for LHS with 89- and 90-stroke efforts respectively.

Hailey Remme and Makayla Sterrett added 97- and 98-stroke rounds to the team tally, which Hailey Franken carded a 117 without influencing the scoring.

Minnewaska Area’s Jenna Janu landed medalist honors by shooting a 68.

The Cards ended the event with a 15-13 overall record.
