John “Jumpy” Serie, 74, Waseca, died Monday, May 4, 2015, at the New Richland Care Center.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 9, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Waseca County.
John Serie was born March 23, 1941, to Wallace and Caroline (Cawels) Serie in Luverne. He graduated from Luverne High School and went on to attend Worthington Community College and Mankato State University. 
On Oct. 29, 1966, he married Ahne Baumgartner in Luverne. He traveled with a family-owned carnival for several years and in 1972 they bought Luverne Lanes Bowling Alley, which they owned and operated for 30 years. He also did sanding and refinishing of hardwood floors in addition to owning and operating a tent rental business.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca and the Knights of Columbus as well as the Sons of the American Legion and was a Professed 3rd Order Carmelite. He enjoyed fishing, watching sports, fixing things, teasing people and making people laugh. 
John is survived by his wife, Ahne Serie, Waseca; seven children, Jorge (Martha) Serie, St. Anthony Village, Julie (Michael) Hawk, Schwenksville, Pennsylvania, Jona (Joseph) Winkelman, Minneapolis, Joe (Dawn) Serie, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Jill (Robert) Lambert, Wichita, Kansas, Joy (Todd) Amunrud, Northfield, and Nicolos (Kayla) Serie, Alexandria; 23 grandchildren; four siblings, Tom Serie, Luverne, Laura (Terry) Akkerman, Sioux Falls, Nan (Tom) Skattum and Rick (Carol) Serie, all of Luverne; a sister-in-law, Audrey Serie, West Concord; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Brian John Serie; and a brother, Larry Serie.
