William Hiney Sr.
William R. Hiney Sr., 81, Luverne, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne.
Services were Tuesday, Sept. 5, in Holm-Dingmann Funeral Chapel, Luverne. The Rev. Maurice E. Hagen officiated. Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery, Luverne.
William R. Hiney Sr. was born to Frank and Violet (Raymond) Hiney on April 2, 1919, in Windom. He attended District #89 country school in Jackson County.
He married Pearl Sogge on June 26, 1937, in Estherville, Iowa. After their marriage the couple lived in Windom. They lived in various cities in southwestern Minnesota before moving to Valley Springs, S.D., in 1953. In 1962 they moved to Sioux Falls, S.D. He worked as a truck driver before retiring in 1981. They moved to Luverne in 1995 where he became a resident of the Minnesota Veterans Home.
Mr. Hiney was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II; a lifetime member of Sioux Falls VFW; and a lifetime member of Luverne American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Pearl Hiney, Luverne; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Richard and Lorraine Hiney, Sioux Falls, and William P. Hiney Jr., Luverne; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Wayne Ward, Hills, and Marie and Darrell Brown, Hills; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Joyce Hiney, Armstrong, Iowa, and one sister, Mary Jane Morris, Trimont.
Mr. Hiney was preceded in death by his parents.
Holm-Dingmann Funeral Home, Luverne, was in charge of arrangements.
