The Luverne girls' hockey team ran its record to 4-0 with a 4-2 victory over Mound-Westonka in Mound Saturday.
The Cardinals scored the first three goals of the contest to gain the lead and fought off a late rally by the hosts to win the game by two goals.
Luverne gained a 2-0 lead by scoring twice in the game’s first 7:02.
Natalie Domagala, who led LHS with two goals, scored 25 seconds into the game after being set up by Andrea Drost. Dana Smeins made it 2-0 with 7:58 remaining in the first period with assists going to Hannah Dietrich and Suzanne Gluf for the goal.
Gluf picked up her second assist of the game after feeding Domagala for her second goal to make the difference 3-0 with 11:55 remaining in the second period. M-W received a goal from Katie Swenson with 4:57 left to play in the second period before Kary Donaldson scored with 9:17 remaining in the third period to trim Luverne’s difference to 3-2.
Cardinal Megan Rogers put the game away by scoring as the third progressed. Stephanie Morgan and Sadie Dietrich received assists for the tally.
Bethany Rosenberg went the distance in net and stopped 26 of 28 shots. Luverne had 31 shots on goal.
The Cards play in Worthington tonight before hosting Fairmont and Windom Saturday and Tuesday respectively.
