Rock County's two amateur baseball teams met for a Sunday afternoon clash in Hills.

For the second time during the summer season, the Luverne Redbirds proved to have too much firepower for the Hills Thunder to contend with as the Redbirds secured a 16-5 win.

Luverne scored the game's first seven runs and added nine more counters in the final two innings to win by the 10-run rule after six innings of play.

Jesse Reisch led the charge for the Redbirds by driving in three runs with four hits.

Brian Weber added four hits for the Redbirds, while Terry Eernisse and Mike Boen added three safeties each.

Reisch doubled to open the game for Luverne and scored the first run when Jeff Sehr provided a sacrifice fly later in the inning.

A six-run third inning extended Luverne's lead to 7-0.

Mike Boen and Billy Schneider both singled home a pair of runs in the inning. Reisch added an RBI single, and Sehr forced home a run with a bases-loaded walk.

Hills made it a 7-1 game when Eric Harnack walked and scored on Matt Funke's RBI single in the bottom of the fourth, but Luverne scored three runs in the fifth inning and six in the sixth to put the game away.

Micky Sehr's three-run homer made it a 10-1 game in the fifth.

Schneider singled home two runs, Barry Shelton had an RBI triple, and Reisch and Eernisse added RBI singles to highlight the six-run sixth.

Hills scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it an 11-run difference in the end.

Funke delivered a solo homer to cap a two-hit game.

Matt Carroll and Jarud Lang singled home runs for the Thunder, while Justin Van Maanen received an RBI for a fielder's choice.

Travis Eernisse pitched all six innings to pick up the win for Luverne. He allowed eight hits.

Chad Rauk worked the first three and one-third innings to take the loss for Hills. Adam Hansen (one and two-thirds innings) and Lang (one inning) pitched in relief.

The 8-4 Redbirds will play Truman and Fairmont at 4 and 6 p.m. Sunday in Jackson.

The 2-11 Thunder play Windom and Heron Lake at noon and 2 p.m. Sunday in Jackson.
